It's that time of year again...no not the holidays, not when it starts getting cold, it's National Novel Writing Month or NaNoWriMo as the annual challenge abbreviates it's name. The challenge in case you didn't know, (I just found out myself about it last year when a friend of mine mentioned that she was doing it) is to write a 50,000 word novel in the 30 days of November and anyone who completes this is automatically declared a winner. The site is said to have tips, inspiration, and places for writers to communicate with each other.
Now as I've mentioned, I want to be an author but I have not been doing a very good job of keeping up with writing consistently. I've always dismissed sitting down to write as "I have more important things I could be doing" (like schoolwork lol) or "All my ideas are too close to things I've read" (young adult fantasy and magic are a tough crowd) also my procrastination problems do not help at all lol! So as you can tell, I am NO WHERE near ready to tackle NaNoWriMo but that friend of mine that I mentioned who told me about NaNoWriMo last year, just got her book published as of November 1st, 2014 "Circle of Fifths" by Chelsea Basiliere in case you were wondering and I'll give you the link to check it out on amazon (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P2O6BDO). She has inspired me and I would still like to take advantage of this national writing month but on my own terms.
I have recently been inspired by the teachers and students I am surrounded with daily at work (I am a paraprofessional in the third grade at a local school). While looking through the NaNoWriMo site and looking at the process and the rules, it is clear that I am not prepared. However, since it is National Writing Month, I will be issuing myself my own challenges in the hopes of building up my skills and maybe be able to do NaNoWriMo next year.
So my personal challenges for this year's writing month are...
1. start writing new story AKMA (personal acronym for privacy)
2. type up at least one old story or story portion from my old notebooks a week
At some point I might add some more challenges such as...
1. a prompt a day (write a paragraph or so on a pre-chosen prompt)
2. a reading challenge involving different genres of books

I really have, and now I will, wish me luck!
I feel really strongly about my new idea (AKMA) so I will mainly be focusing on that.
However, I think this push to type up my old stories and story portions will be good for me because sometimes you get re-inspired and end up continuing from where you left off or end up turning it into something new. This should be a fun month...
